Oranienburger Economy Sleeper

At the corner of tree-lined Torstrasse and the famous Fredrichstrasse (with its tram-lines and major railstation some five minutes walk just over the river) is the large completely restored altbau (old building) in which this cosy, economical apartment is located. Fresh from a refurbishment in June 2008 this is one of our most utilitarian apartments, focus being on value-for-money in immaculate conditions and convenient circumstances. Though the building lies at the junction of major boulevards and is steps from Oranienburger Tor U-Bahn and an intersection of four major tram and bus lines, the apartment lies in the hinterhaus (the back building) where no street noise filters through; and thus even in the middle of the day it is as quiet as a remote country cottage. The apartment is, moreover, on the ground floor so one benefits from easy access but full peace-of-mind in terms of security as there is no street access; entry is via the front gateway doors, passing through two courtyards and thence to the hinterhaus door - beyond which, in the plush carpetted foyer, is our apartment.

This is an extremely cosy apartment but deceptively so when one considers how well arranged the interior space has been - the master bedroom, for instance, sleeps SIX people on permanent beds; no squeezing in rollaways or converting temporary sofas each morning if your family or group is happy to share the room. The living room with breakfast bar kitchen has comfortable couches and seating, coffee table and TV with entertainment system. The well-equipped kitchen has the advantage of being separated from the living room by only the breakfast bar and thus when some are cooking and others watching a movie, there is no separation; no poor isolated soul slaving away over a meal in lonely solitude while the others lounge around social and entertained.

Broadband internet is a standard, direct from Deutsche Telekom, with option for telephone access giving local and Germany-wide calls to landlines completely FREE; and incoming calls from anywhere in the world (also without charge). You have 24/7 access, also without charge, our laundry facilities in a nearby building where you'll find washing machine AND dryer with dedicated room for ironing, folding, etc.

Since you are advantaged by the fabulous location (all the benefits in terms of transport around the city and range of amenities on your doorstep with no drawbacks due to the apartment's back-of-the-altbau position) you can explore most of Berlin's most exciting landmarks with bewildering ease. Take a five minute stroll down Fredrichstrasse and you'll be standing on a bridge over the river Spree. Look east and you'll see, a few hundred metres away, the Reichstag building and the Tiergarten Park. Look west and even closer is Museum Island with the Alexanderplatz Tower as its backdrop. Continue along Fredrichstrasse a short way and you will find the famous Fredrichstrasse Bahnhof or rail-station; from here you can connect into West Berlin or indeed anywhere in continental Europe! Beyond the station is the Unter den Linden, the Brandenburg Gate and finally, under fifteen minutes from the apartment, the world-famous Checkpoint Charlie. Everything so close, so easy to reach and if even that amount of walking is difficult or unappealing, you can step onto a tram or into the U-Bahn literally twenty feet from your building.

There are organic and regular supermarkets in the same block as your apartment building, fine dining (e.g. the Michellin-starred Rutz restaurant), twentyfour hour convenience stores, cafes, bars, well-known delis and local hangouts... all within arm's reach. As with all our apartments, you enjoy the privilege of locating yourself in a perfect spot to live and explore Berlin - surrounded by the activity, amenities and ambience of major world capital life; yet in peace when at home, aloof from the hubbub in your hinterhaus oasis.
