Kleine Hamburger Balcony

Boasting a balcony overlooking a typical tree-lined Berlin boulevard style street and the nearby Cafe Lenet with its daily freshbaked produce (rumoured to have the best poppyseed tart in the city), this spacious, sun-drenched apartment was fully rennovated in Spring of 2008. It features woodfloors, high ceilings, big windows (including balcony doors allowing a maximum of sunlight into the living and dining areas). The overall feel is one of space, cleanliness and welcoming updated features.

The building itself is one of the many renovated 'altbau' apartment buildings common in Berlin, its proportions designed for the well heeled citizens of the early twentieth century. After the fall of the Wall, investment, architects and developers poured into Mitte - the centre of the city, after all, and long dilapidated under East German civic authorities - remodeling, reconstructing and redesigning these grand old buildings; restoring their former glory. Pictures on this site in the 'Neighbourhood Info' section should give you some idea of the beautiful diversity and understated grandieur of the streets in this part of the city.

The extremely large and bright living room and dining area are comfortable and well-situated with doubledoors leading to the balcony (plus the existing secondaryglazed windows) providing a constant flow of daytime sunlight, a sense of space, but with an antique rug and much-loved leather armchair amongst other furnishings there's also a homely feel to the room. The dining table is extendable for those with a penchant for more formal dining at home, its chairs comfortable and cushioned for long evenings of good food and good conversation. The kitchen is fully-equipped with all mod cons, polished to a shine and perfect for meal preparation. The fridge is ceiling height, the dishwasher top-of-the-line, hob of ceramic induction variety and the cupboards full of utensils, plates, pots'n'pans etc. In the bathroom you'll find a separate shower cubicle (oversized, powerful waterflow) and large bathtub with its own shower attachment.

Too often during our own vacations we have found the size of so-called doublebeds to be frustratingly small so in this apartment we have opted for the other extreme: the bedroom is dominated by a superkingsize bed (200cm by 200cm) which has the advantage of easy separation into two singles. There is a nice wooden wardrobe with attached chest-of-drawers for your clothing and a bedside table with reading lamp for luxuriating in bed after a long day's exploration. Swaddle yourself in pillows and comforters (we provide extras, for those of a pampering disposition) as you enjoy the quality mattresses and bedlinens. Beneath the superking are two single rollaways for groups or families to utilise and in the living room the main couch converts via a simple mechanism into a queensize bed.

Outside of the apartment you will find, in a private courtyard, outdoor tables and benches for barbeque and al fresco dining, together with a bicycle house in the event you decide on a more active vacation. Berlin is covered in bikepaths and bikelanes, traffic is relatively light for a major capital due to the fabulous public transport system and thus cycling around the city is popular and much recommended as a means of getting around. We can provide maps and suggestions for routes. The cellar of this apartment's altbau (accessible via the elevator and interior stairs) contains a full laundry - washing machine and dryer is a standard, with separate room for hanging clothes, ironing and other such domestic necessities.

Technologically the apartment is firstclass, with a broadband internet connection of highspec capacity (unlimited and free to use) and TV with German and English language channels. We include a DVD and a hifi system for our guests and have an extensive DVD collection available on request. The telephone service is free to call any landline number within Germany and to receive incoming calls from anywhere in the world. AirTunes allows you to play music from your laptop wirelessly. All other utilities and taxes are included in the price of the rental. When you book any of our apartments you remove the worry of the 'cost pinching' hotel so-called extra services, all of which mount up on one's bill by the end of the stay... simply for maintaining the adjuncts to life one takes for granted at home.

Whatever your purpose in Berlin, whatever the size and make-up of your group, you will find our properties meets even the most exacting of criteria. It is, quite simply, the perfect base not only from which to explore Berlin, but also to live in the comfortable 'grand' style of a local; an instant way to integrate with the city, to live as a Berliner, in a welcoming, luxurious environment furnished at every turn by a personal touch impossible to find in hotels. All this for less than the price of an average hotel room.
